NEW POSITIONS

The Irving Police Department is excited to announce that we are expanding our team and currently hiring for three new positions: Investigative Support Specialist, Criminalist, and Public Safety Officer. These roles offer unique opportunities to serve our community, support critical public safety functions, and contribute to the department’s mission of protecting and improving the quality of life for all residents.

PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER

    • Education: High school diploma (12th grade) plus related college or vocational training (preferred).

    • Experience: Background in logistics, fleet coordination, or law-enforcement support (preferred).

    • License: Appropriate, valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain).

  • PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

    • Vehicle/fleet readiness: Maintenance scheduling, vendor coordination, safe vehicle transport.

    • Inventory & equipment control: Tracking systems, issuing/receiving equipment, audit support.

    • Customer service/front desk & communications: Professional interaction with staff, vendors, and public.

    • Parking enforcement & basic incident support: Enforcing parking regs; assisting on non-emergency traffic issues/obstructions.

  • Ten-Year Salary Step Program:

    $42,720.00 - $60,204.00 (GG13)

    Public Safety Officers keep our people, vehicles, and equipment ready for anything. From fleet logistics to front-desk service and quick response to minor incidents, you’ll make sure officers can focus on protecting Irving.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO:

    • Inspect police vehicles/equipment, schedule maintenance and upfitting, and transport fleet vehicles.

    • Enforce parking regulations and support front-desk customer service.

    • Distribute and track equipment; maintain inventories and assist with audits.

    • Provide supplemental response to non-emergency issues (minor crashes, stranded motorists, roadway obstructions) and support special projects.

CRIMINALIST

    • Education: Bachelor’s in forensic science, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, or a related field.

    • Experience: 1–2 years in crime scene investigation or forensic analysis (preferred).

    • License/Certs: Valid Texas driver’s license; IAI Crime Scene Certification (or equivalent) preferred—or obtained within 12 months of hire.

    • Core Knowledge: Crime scene processing, evidence collection & chain of custody, photography/digital documentation, latent prints, biological/trace evidence, applicable laws, lab safety, and courtroom reporting/testimony.

    • Skills: Precise documentation and collection, analytical interpretation of evidence, clear report writing and courtroom communication, ability to prioritize under time pressure, and strict adherence to safety/legal standards.

  • Ten-Year Salary Step Program:

    $60,396.00 - $85,092.00 (GG20)

    Our Criminalists transform trace materials into clear, defensible findings that help detectives close cases and protect Irving families. If you love precision, problem-solving, and purpose, this is where your skills meet service.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO:

    • Document, collect, and preserve physical evidence with airtight chain-of-custody.

    • Process latent prints, biological/trace evidence, and produce courtroom-ready reports.

    • Collaborate with detectives and testify to your findings when needed.

INVESTIGATIVE SUPPORT SPECIALIST

    • Education: High school diploma (12th grade) plus some related college or vocational training.

    • Experience: Two (2) years of related experience.

    • License: Appropriate, valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain).

  • PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

    • Researching law-enforcement/public databases and social media; reviewing phone extractions and managing cell-phone mapping requests.

    • Turning findings into charts, maps, timelines, and concise reports that drive investigations.

    • Locating/obtaining video or other tech data from businesses/residences; organizing evidence and case files; supporting DA submissions.

    • Drafting/supporting reports, search warrants, arrest affidavits, and supplements.

    • Strong office software skills; familiarity with police records resources, confidentiality, and the Open Records Act.

  • Ten-Year Salary Step Program:

    $49,680.00 - $70,056.00 (GG16)

    Our Investigative Support Specialists turn raw data into clear leads—sifting phones, video, databases, and social platforms to help investigators move quickly from question to answer. If you’re organized, tech-savvy, and service-minded, your work directly helps victims and advances cases.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO:

    • Research across law-enforcement systems, public records, and social media; map phones and extract key information to support active cases.

    • Build charts, maps, timelines, and concise summaries that give detectives immediate direction.

    • Track down video and other digital evidence from businesses and residences; organize case files and evidence.

    • Draft and assist with reports, search warrants, arrest affidavits, and DA submissions.

    Your clarity and speed help detectives act faster, elevate case quality, and deliver better outcomes for the Irving community.
